My name is Maha, and I’m a trans woman in Iraq. For years, the Islamic regime in Iraq has demonized being Trans. Enmity towards trans people in Iraq is so strong it leaves us all in danger of being hanged or stoned to death. I was only four years old when I encountered such hatred: there was a dress I had wanted to buy so badly I broke into tears as my mother scolded me: “You are a man, and should not wear this!”
